Echoes
By
N. Richard
Nash
Directed by Raimondo Genna Presented February 6-March 1, 2003 at 6th @ Penn The first production of Stone Soup’s second season was Echoes, an intimate, three-character drama by N. Richard Nash. Desperate to hold on to their imaginary world in an asylum, two patients resist the one thing that will either save or destroy them: the truth. Echoes was directed by Stone Soup Associate Director Raimondo Genna, who directed Stone Soup’s inaugural production, Ariel Dorfman’s Death and the Maiden. Echoes follows a young man and woman and the paradise they have built for themselves within an asylum. The two characters search to determine the line between illusion and reality. Originally produced in 1972 at A Contemporary Theatre in Seattle, Echoes was the Award Play of The American Playwrights Theatre. Playwright N. Richard Nash is best known for his 1954 play The Rainmaker. Here's What the Critics Had to Say: "Stone Soup continues to be impressive." --Charlene Baldridge "Diana and De Carlo demand -- no, command, our attention...The two are up to the demands of the play and director Raimondo Genna. While the world they inhabit is occasionally difficult to watch, the two are riveting." --Robert Hitchcox, totaltheatre.com "Shannon Diana and Jon DeCarlo play off one another well and their balance is maintained throughout... when they shout out frustrations, you feel their entrapment within those isolated, white walls of medical observation." --C.
